Raila Diehard Calvin Gaucho Arrested Again

Calvin Gaucho, a staunch supporter of Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga, was apprehended on Tuesday, May 23, after voluntarily presenting himself at Nairobi Central Police Station. According to Azimio la Umoja, Gaucho visited the station to inquire about his phone, which had been seized during a previous arrest related to opposition protests in which he had participated.

Azimio la Umoja confirmed Gaucho’s arrest, stating that officers from Nairobi Area (County Hqs) detained him at the Central Police Station. The incident occurred a day after Gaucho allegedly made derogatory remarks towards Nominated MP Sabina Chege during the Jubilee Party National Delegates Convention (NDC) held at Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi.

During the event, Azimio co-principal Martha Karua criticized Gaucho for his remarks, highlighting their gender-based nature and urging against such behavior. Karua emphasized the importance of focusing on individuals’ actions rather than engaging in personal attacks based on gender.

Earlier, on March 24, just days before the nationwide Azimio protests, Gaucho and Nuru Okanga were arrested, although no charges were filed against them, as emphasized by Azimio at the time. Gaucho was held at Limuru Police Station in Kiambu County, while Okanga was detained at Karuri Police Station. However, both individuals were released on bail of Ksh1,000 each four days later.
