Athlete champion Eliud Kipchoge today on Sunday September 25, 2022 clocked the 2:01.09 to set a new world marathon record breaking his own of 2:02.39 set at the BMW Berlin Marathon Edition in 2018.
President William Ruto took to social media to congratulate Kipchoge naming him as the King of the Marathon. “The greatest has done it again; breaking the world record! Congratulations Eliud Kipchoge for winning the Berlin Marathon for the fourth time. You are truly the King of the Marathon.” He wrote.
Ruto has also acknowledged Kenyan long distance runner Rosemary Wanjiru who took the second position in Women’s Marathon finishing at 2:18:00 in Berlin behind Tigist Assefa of Ethiopia.
“Second fastest debut ever run! Magnificent performance by Rosemary Wanjiru for clocking 2:18:00 to get silver in the 2022 Berlin Marathon. Kenya is proud of you.” Ruto said.
Other Kenyan-World champions who represented the country in the Berlin Marathon is Mark Korir who came second in 2:05.58 and behind Kipchoge, 2018 Napoli Half Marathon winner Abel Kipchumba settled at position five in 00:42.33 while Zablon Chumba finished in 2:08:01 at no.10.
