ODM Stands by Sifuna Amid Backlash Over UDA Stance

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has moved to quell internal and public criticism of its Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, following his repeated opposition to the party’s perceived cooperation with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

ODM Chief Executive Officer Oduor Ong’wen has come out in firm defense of Sifuna, clarifying his role and reaffirming his authority to speak on behalf of the party. According to the party leadership, Sifuna remains the official spokesperson and is fully mandated to articulate ODM’s positions on national issues.

Ong’wen further noted that beyond his official capacity, Sifuna retains the right to express personal opinions a principle that aligns with democratic ideals. His remarks appear aimed at calming tensions within the party’s ranks and the broader political landscape, where Sifuna’s vocal criticism of ODM’s ties with UDA has triggered mixed reactions.

The statement signals ODM’s attempt to maintain internal unity while navigating a politically delicate relationship with the ruling party. It also underscores the party’s balancing act between institutional coherence and individual freedom of expression among its leaders.

The public show of support for Sifuna suggests that, despite divergent views on strategy and alliances, ODM is keen to project stability and reaffirm its commitment to open political discourse.
