The children of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga paid their final respects to their father during a memorial service held at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi. The event brought together family, friends, and supporters who gathered to honour the life and legacy of the veteran politician.
Winnie Odinga expressed deep affection for her father, describing him as her hero and greatest inspiration. “I am the luckiest girl in the world because you are my dad. Only three other human beings were as lucky as me — Fidel, Rozzy, and Junior. I don’t know who I’ll miss more; my dad or my superhero,” she said.
Raila Odinga Jr assured mourners that he would take care of the family and continue upholding his father’s legacy. “I am very alive to the fact that with my brother Fidel gone, I remain the gentleman of the family. Dad, I want to assure you that I will take care of our family — Mum, Rosie, Winnie — and the larger political family you have left behind. Thank you for giving me your name and for never heaping the weight of it on me,” he stated.
Rosemary Odinga remembered her father as both a mentor and a friend. “He was my adviser, my friend, and someone who truly understood me. I received the news of his passing from my brother, who asked me to sit down before telling me that our father was no longer with us,” she shared.
The tributes highlighted Raila Odinga’s enduring influence not only as a national leader but also as a loving father and pillar of strength within his family.
