Museveni Calls For East African Common Market For Regional Wealth Creation

Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has asked East African states to establish an effective Common regional Market to drive for wealth creation. The long-serving Head of state further emphasized on sectors of agriculture, manufacturing, ICT, and sports as key areas to delve into in order to bolster East Africa’s economy.

Speaking after honouring invitation in the “Piny Luo Cultural Festival,” an event held in Siaya County, Museveni emphasized the need for barrier-free trade and movement within East Africa. He called upon East African Heads of State to allow visa free entry across their borders to enhance trade-ties between and among countries forming EAC.

The Ugandan leader cited America’s strong economy as an example of large market benefits, contrasting it with resource-rich but market-limited Latin America.

He advocated for transforming subsistence farming into commercial agriculture and stressed the importance of pan-African integration for prosperity.

Supporting Raila Odinga’s African Union Commission chairmanship bid, Museveni and Kenya’s President Ruto view regional integration as crucial for economic growth, with both leaders pushing for an EAC political federation to enhance business opportunities across the region.
