Massive Fire Erupts After Fuel Tanker Explosion in Nakuru’s Pipeline Area

A massive fire broke out early Saturday morning, June 14, at Barnabas Stage in the Pipeline area of Nakuru County, following a fuel tanker explosion that triggered a chain reaction involving multiple tankers.

According to footage obtained by TheAfricanWatch.com, the raging fire engulfed several fuel tankers, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky. Emergency response teams rushed to the scene to contain the inferno, which posed a serious threat to nearby businesses and residential areas.

Although the exact cause of the explosion remains unclear, preliminary reports indicate that no casualties have been reported so far. Authorities have since launched investigations to determine the origin of the fire.

The blaze led to the temporary closure of the busy Nakuru–Nairobi Highway, rendering it impassable and causing major disruptions to traffic flow. Motorists were advised to seek alternative routes as firefighters battled to bring the situation under control.

Despite the intensity of the fire, video clips showed large crowds of onlookers gathered dangerously close to the scene. At the time of publication, neither the police nor the County Government of Nakuru had issued an official statement regarding the incident.

This fire incident comes just days after a night inferno in Kibra, Nairobi, on June 11, which displaced over 100 families. Narrow roads in the area hampered firefighting efforts, leaving traders and homeowners counting heavy losses.

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku, accompanied by Kibra MP Peter Orero, visited Mukungu Village to offer support, promising emergency relief to affected families. “The government is committed to ending these tragedies and safeguarding lives and property,” Ruku stated during his visit.
