Kuria Commends Ruto and Raila’s Talks for Kenya

Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has expressed his support for President William Ruto and Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga for agreeing to resume negotiations. In a statement on July 30, Kuria praised the move as a positive step for Kenya’s economy and emphasized that violence is not the solution to political differences. He urged the nation to come together, with a strong government and opposition, to maintain balance.

While Kuria commended the leaders for their willingness to engage in bipartisan talks, he made it clear that they would not accept a powersharing deal similar to the Uhuru-Raila Handshake, which resulted in confusion and division.

The decision to resume negotiations came after a private meeting between President Ruto and Raila Odinga in Mombasa. The talks will involve 10 members, five from each coalition, and will be facilitated by former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo. The committee will include members from outside Parliament, leaders of the Majority and Minority from the National Assembly, and four additional Members of Parliament, two from each side.

The resumption of talks was welcomed by Azimio, who announced that they had sanctioned the meeting to prepare the ground for honest discussions on the issues raised by both sides. The talks aim to address important national matters and find common ground for the betterment of the country.

Despite supporting the talks, Kuria also urged caution to avoid a repeat of the Nusu Mkate confusion, referring to the power-sharing arrangement that led to challenges in the past. He believes that Ruto and Raila are on the right side of history and enjoy the support of all Kenyans as long as they steer clear of divisive arrangements.

The new negotiations provide hope for Kenya’s future, as both coalitions seek to find resolutions through dialogue and collaboration, focusing on the well-being of the nation. Alongside the talks, nationwide rallies will continue, showing a commitment to addressing the concerns of the people.
