Kithure Kindiki:One Bandit Turned A School Into His Home.

The Interior Cabinet Secretary, Kithure Kindiki, have brought to the limelight on the ministry’s progress in fighting the banditry attacks in the North Rift region.

Bandits and cattle rustlers have caused a lot of destruction in the region leading to loss of cattles and lives as well as displacement of locals.

Kindiki appeared before the senate committee on National Cohesion at Baringo County Hall Mini Chambers on Wednesday where the CS explained how insecurity totally interfered with the learning activities in that region.

He narrated an occasion where one of the bandits took over one of the learning institutions that was shut after the banditry attacks persisted and turned the place into his home.

The bandit transformed class eight into his bedroom, class seven turned the bedroom of his first wife, class six and five became the bedroom of the second wife and the first born respectively.

The CS also added that there is no greater level of impunity and lawlessness as President Ruto has ordered and directed them and they have taken the directives that even the remaining learning institutions must be reopened.

Kindiki indicated that the government has managed to reopen 14 out of 21 schools that had been closed in that region.

He assured that they are doing their best to defeat the bandits as well as minimize terror attacks in order to ensure that all the learning institutions are reopened without any hindrance.

Kindiki noted that some of the learning institutions like Lerecha Primary School were completely destroyed and burnt down adding that his ministry in association with Ministry of Education are working on constructing new learning facilities.

The CS indicated that they are currently debating with the Teacher’s Service Commission to get more teachers from the region since most of the teachers posted there are uncomfortable and they keep asking for transfers.

Among the most insecure counties are Baringo, Samburu, Turkana and Elgeyo Marakwet.
