Kiambu MCAs Demand That Ward Bursaries Be Released

A group of Kiambu MCAs have urged governor Wamatangi to follow through on his pledge to deliver the ward bursaries during their previous meeting.

Muchatha MCA Karanja Kamau told Star that the governor is not prepared to award the scholarships.

He pointed out that nothing is being done to establish the foundation and structure; all he is doing is promising to release. It’s either he releases the monies or we file a motion of no confidence in him, he said. “Governor Wamatangi should tell the truth and set a good example,” he added.

He added that the governor doesn’t involve elected officials in the County’s growth. Also, Governor Wamatangi informed the Star that the cash will be released the next week.

The governor explained that the committees were being assembled at the time the bursary was little delayed. He stated that since the committee members have been gazetted in accordance with the legislation, the procedure is complete.

Wamatangi stated, “We are now prepared to distribute the bursary applications to individuals, and once they have been submitted, I will sign the check to release the funds.

Wamatangi stated that he will distribute Sh100 million, and that he will introduce a supplementary budget in the county assembly in March that will appropriate an extra Sh100 million to the fund. In May, the kitty will be distributed.

Kamau, a Kikuyu ward MCA James Boro advised Wamatangi to work with assembly to see that any unfinished tasks left by his predecessor are finished. He encouraged the governor to disburse the monies, repeating Karanja’s comments.
