Gov’t Spokesperson Condemns Online Mockery of Raila Odinga Junior

Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has condemned social media users who have been mocking Raila Odinga Junior over his physical appearance. His remarks came after images and videos went viral online, showing people imitating the late Raila Odinga’s son in what has been dubbed a trending “challenge.”

In a statement posted on his official X account, Mwaura criticized the behaviour, saying it was inhumane and unacceptable. “It’s very wrong to mock someone based on their appearance due to an inherent condition. It’s even horrendous to create a ‘challenge’ to body shame,” he wrote.

The government spokesperson further noted that such behaviour reflects poorly on those participating in it, linking it to a lack of moral values. “Such behaviour reflects more on your poor character and upbringing in the name of content creation. Let’s be human for once,” he added.

Mwaura’s comments followed widespread outrage from Kenyans online, who called for empathy and respect for the Odinga family as they continue to mourn. Popular musician and social media influencer Akothee also weighed in, urging Kenyans to stop using people’s physical traits as material for online entertainment.

Akothee described the mockery as “immaturity disguised as content creation” and called for responsible use of social media platforms. The incident has reignited debate on digital ethics and the growing trend of online trolling targeting public figures and their families.
