Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been advised by close allies to now focus on solidifying his political influence beyond Mt. Kenya region.
In a recent media interview, Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba told Gachagua, to reconsider the narrow regional focus that has largely defined his political identity. According to Wamuchomba, Gachagua’s influence and identity in the central region is now glued suggesting that he should now focus on keeping his title as national leader.
Wamuchomba pointed that it is time for the former DP to shift his attention towards issues that affect the wider Kenyan population, and not just emphasizing on the interest of his home turf.
Her remarks come at a time when allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, including Wamuchomba herself, have experienced a dramatic fall from grace, with many being ousted from leadership roles in key parliamentary committees.
Wamuchomba, in particular, was removed from her influential position as Chairperson of the Constitutional Oversight and Implementation Committee and reassigned to a less important role within the Members Services Committee.
This reshuffle, orchestrated by the House Selection Committee, marked a major power shift as Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) made significant strides in taking control of five vital departmental committees, further diminishing Gachagua’s influence in the government.
