Rigathi Gachagua Reassures Kenyans, Praises Ruto’s Global Impact

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has criticized certain opposition figures for expressing skepticism about President William Ruto’s capabilities as a leader.

On September 7, during the inauguration of the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) show in Mombasa, Gachagua emphasized that President Ruto is recognized as a global leader, hinting that the opposition, particularly the Azimio faction, should respect him. He referenced the esteem in which President Ruto is held by international and African leaders as evidence of his global stature.

Furthermore, Gachagua applauded President Ruto for successfully organizing the African Climate Summit in Nairobi, suggesting that this event showcased the president’s leadership and played a pivotal role in uniting Africa on climate change matters. He expressed pride in how President Ruto’s leadership at the summit elevated his global standing.

The Deputy President also touched upon domestic issues, emphasizing the government’s dedication to reducing the living expenses burdening Kenyans. He reassured that the administration plans to continue supporting the agricultural sector by offering fertiliser subsidies and allowing tax-free imports of essential commodities like maize, rice, sugar, and raw materials for livestock.

Gachagua’s statements came on the heels of the conclusion of the African Climate Summit, a significant gathering that attracted 17 African leaders and 66 ministers and diplomats. The summit lasted for three days at the KICC and saw the participation of prominent figures, including the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres.
