Frida Boyani Mokaya Appointed as New Chief Registrar of the Judiciary

In a decisive move by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Frida Boyani Mokaya has been appointed as the new Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, succeeding Anne Amadi. The appointment comes after rigorous interviews conducted by the Commission on Monday, March 18, where Mokaya emerged as the leading candidate among seven applicants.

Her selection was made based on merit, performance, and suitability for the position, according to a statement from the JSC. Mokaya’s tenure as Chief Registrar will span five years, during which she is expected to bring her wealth of experience and expertise to the role.

Mokaya boasts an impressive academic background, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Nairobi, which she obtained in 1993. She furthered her legal education by completing a Post Graduate Diploma in Law at the Kenya School of Law. Currently, she is pursuing a Master’s degree in Law at the University of Nairobi.

With a distinguished career spanning several decades, Mokaya has served in various capacities within the judiciary. Prior to her appointment, she served as the registrar of the Judicial Service Commission since 2012. Her previous roles include serving as a District Magistrate, Resident Magistrate, Senior Resident Magistrate, and Principal Magistrate, showcasing her extensive experience within the judicial system.

Mokaya’s responsibilities as the new Chief Registrar will be multifaceted. She will serve as the secretary to both the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and the National Council on Administration of Justice. Additionally, she will assume the roles of Chief Administrator and Accounting Officer of the Judiciary.

According to the Judicial Service Act 2011, Mokaya’s duties will include preparing expenditure estimates for the judiciary, managing day-to-day operations, administering human resources, and overseeing support services within the judiciary.

Commenting on her appointment, Mokaya expressed her commitment to upholding the integrity and efficiency of the judiciary. She emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in ensuring access to justice for all citizens.
