Emotions Run High As Francis Gachuri Bids Farewell to RMS

Francis Gachuri is a renowned political journalist in Kenya and he started off his career at KBC in 2006 after graduating from Moi University, Eldoret, before joining Royal Media Services(RMS) in September, 2007.
Gachuri resigned from RMS and he is set to head the Ministry of Interior and National Administration as Head of Communications.

In his heartfelt farewell speech, Gachuri reflected on his 17 years journey at RMS, appreciating his fellow colleagues, bosses, and audiences for their endless support.

“When I joined Royal Media Services 5,661 days ago, I was a young man, who did not even have a family. While here, I got married and had children, the eldest is now in high school. So, all my major milestones happened while I was here. What more could I say?” Gachuri recalled.

He gave a special appreciation to his colleagues Linus Kaikai, Yvonne Okwara and Jamila Mohammed.

Gachuri also thanked RMS viewers, listeners, and readers for their feedback and support throughout his journalistic career.

His boss Kaikai praised him for his great contribution to the media house’s growth from the time he joined as a junior reporter, to becoming a rock on the News Gang show, an integral part of Inooro TV and an on-air personnel at Radio Citizen.

“And wherever you go always tell the truth and stick by the truth. The truth is not variable, whether we are on the set or another service. You’ll be the guy that will be saying things that others won’t say. I wish you the best and I know you will make that place a better place all the very best. We will miss you,” RMS Editorial Director indicated.

The station also recalled Gachuri’s journey by demonstrating how he evolved from his first field assignment to his last coverage of the who is who in the current administration in the country.

As the video was playing, the outgoing media presenter was dumbfounded as emotion were at the peak as he watched in disbelief how much growth and development he had made at the station.

He could hold his mouth and his head interchangeably as the video showcased him at various stages of his journalistic career.

The RMS team also surprised him with a cake at the end of the show in order to cool the emotional bid in which Gachuri was gifted two Manchester United jerseys by his fellow news anchor, Ayub Abdikadir.

At the end, the farewell celebration went off-screen after more colleagues joined in celebrating the moments they shared together with the outgoing journalist.

We wish Gachuri all the best in his new career.
