Francis Atwoli Says He Knew Ruto Would Win The Elections

Francis Atwoli has revealed he knew William Ruto would win the 2022 elections.

The COTU secretary general seems to have joined the Kenya Kwanza administration under William Ruto. In the last few weeks he has been busy defending the president amid ongoing criticism of his leadership. Atwoli campaigned for Azimio candidate Raila Odinga and claimed that Ruto could not win the elections. He seems to have changed his mind and is now campaigning for William Ruto as he seeks his reelection bid.

Speaking on Tuesday, Atwoli said he was trying to energise them by saying Ruto could not win. “In the run-up to the elections, when I was saying Ruto would not win, I was trying to energise you. In my inner thinking, the new government had already been formed, and as your parent, I could not tell you that you are losing.” He said.

He went on to say that politics in Kenya is not issue-based, but “Kenya’s politics is not issue-based. If it were, Atwoli would have been president. If I were in another country where people debated on issues, they would have come for me and carried me to the statehouse.” He concluded.
