DCI Makes Significant Drug Trafficking Arrests in Thika and Mombasa

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have made notable arrests in both Thika and Mombasa regions, underscoring their commitment to combating the illicit drug trade across Kenya.

On Friday, April 26, a well-coordinated operation led to the apprehension of a suspected drug trafficker in the Thika area of Kiambu County. Acting on actionable intelligence, detectives from the anti-narcotics department, bolstered by support from the Operations Support Unit, intercepted a bus en route from Moyale to Nairobi at the Blue Post section of Thika. A meticulous search of the vehicle led to the discovery of several sachets suspected to contain cocaine concealed ingeniously under the inner soles of the suspect’s shoe.

The arrest, facilitated by a tip-off from an anonymous source, resulted in the detention of a 24-year-old individual. Subsequent screening at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) revealed the suspect’s attempt to smuggle approximately 417 grams of cocaine, with an estimated street value of Ksh1.8 million. Alarmingly, it was also uncovered that the suspect had ingested additional drugs, presumably with the intent to expel them upon reaching their destination.

“The suspect is currently in the custody of JKIA-ANU officers pending egestion of the swallowed sachets and further legal procedures,” affirmed detectives.

This significant arrest underscores the continued vigilance of law enforcement agencies in thwarting drug trafficking operations within the country. It serves as a stark warning to those who seek to exploit Kenya’s transportation networks for nefarious purposes.

In a separate but equally significant development, on April 17, detectives from the Mombasa anti-narcotics department apprehended another drug trafficker in Kiembeni, Bombo area of Kisauni. Acting swiftly on information provided by a concerned member of the public, DCI officers executed an early morning operation that led to the suspect’s arrest.

During the operation, law enforcement seized several sachets of suspected heroin and cannabis sativa from the suspect’s residence and personal vehicle. Additionally, authorities confiscated the suspect’s vehicle, believed to be procured through illicit means, along with a sum of Sh26,250 and USD 200 in cash. Furthermore, evidence gathering yielded a weighing machine, packaging envelopes, and three mobile phones from the suspect’s possession.

The latest arrests underscore the relentless efforts of law enforcement agencies in disrupting drug trafficking networks and dismantling their operations. They serve as a testament to the invaluable role of community cooperation in providing critical information that aids in combating criminal activities.

As the fight against drug trafficking intensifies, the DCI remains resolute in its commitment to safeguarding communities and upholding the rule of law. These recent successes send a clear message that those engaged in illicit drug trade will face the full force of justice.
