DAP-K Confirms Petition Seeking Natembeya’s Removal from Party Leadership

The Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) has confirmed receiving a formal petition calling for the removal of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya from his position as Deputy Party Leader.

The petition, reportedly backed by several members of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), accuses Natembeya of funding and promoting activities of a rival political party, which they argue undermines DAP-K’s unity and integrity. The petitioners are urging the party to expel him from the leadership position.

In response to the escalating tensions, the party’s National Management Committee has referred the matter to the Internal Dispute Resolution Mechanism (IDRM) for urgent review and resolution.

DAP-K Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa has sought to reassure members and the public, stating that the party remains firmly democratic and committed to resolving internal disputes transparently and peacefully.

However, Governor Natembeya has dismissed the allegations of serious divisions within DAP-K, downplaying the matter as “small differences.” He instead emphasized the need for the party to undergo internal reforms, calling for rebranding and national expansion beyond its perceived base in Western Kenya.

The outcome of the IDRM process is expected to shape DAP-K’s direction ahead of the 2027 general elections, with both unity and strategic positioning now at stake.
