CS Duale Pursues Raila In Relation To Secessionist Calls

Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has criticized Raila Odinga, the leader of Azimio la Umoja, and Kalonzo Musyoka, the leader of the Wiper Party, for advocating self-determination. Duale made his comments during the launch of Masalani municipality in Garissa County on Saturday, May 27. He accused Raila and Kalonzo of irresponsibly promoting the secession and division of the country, emphasizing that it was a low move driven by self-interest and the pursuit of the elusive handshake.

Duale emphasized that Kenya is a unified nation as stated in the constitution, with the president serving as a symbol of national unity. He called upon Raila to accept the government and allow the country to progress and develop.

Raila had previously issued an ultimatum to President William Ruto, giving him seven days to denounce Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s remarks regarding the Kenya Kwanza government being a shareholding company. Raila threatened to write to the United Nations if Ruto failed to denounce Gachagua’s statements. Raila argued that Kenyans are entitled to their rights and should not face discrimination, as the constitution guarantees certain rights that must be respected by the government.

Gachagua had previously stated in February that government appointments under the Kenya Kwanza government would prioritize those who voted for the current administration, while those who voted for the opposition would receive less consideration. He characterized the government as a company with varying shares, implying that those who supported the government should reap the benefits of their investment.

Duale criticized Raila and Kalonzo for their calls for self-determination, stating that it was irresponsible and against the unity of the nation. Raila, on the other hand, issued an ultimatum to Ruto to denounce Gachagua’s remarks, threatening to involve the United Nations if his demands were not met.
