Concern Grows As MP Koimburi Remains Missing Since Friday

Juja, Kenya-Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi is missing following a dramatic incident on Friday, May 23, during a bursary issuance event at Gachororo Primary School. Witnesses say the lawmaker fled on a motorbike after individuals believed to be police officers arrived at the venue, prompting fears for his safety. Koimburi left his vehicle and driver behind, who was later questioned at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters and released shortly thereafter.

Koimburi’s legal team and supporters have condemned the incident, terming it an abuse of power by state authorities. His whereabouts remain unknown as of today.

This is not the first time Koimburi has had run-ins with law enforcement. In a similar incident on February 20, 2025, the MP made a high-speed escape on a motorbike outside the Kiambu Law Courts, moments after addressing the press. Chaos erupted when detectives attempted to re-arrest him over ongoing legal proceedings.

Koimburi was originally arrested on February 18 outside his Kenyatta Road residence and arraigned on February 19. He faced six charges, including forging academic certificates dating back to 1994 and submitting falsified documents to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) in 2021.

Though released on a Ksh 200,000 cash bail, the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) opposed his release, citing fears he might flee. Prosecutors pointed to a prior warrant of arrest issued in 2022 after Koimburi failed to attend court.

As investigations continue, concern grows over the MP’s safety and the broader implications of the escalating standoff between elected leaders and state security agencies.
