Babu Owino Decries Security Withdrawal as Attack on Democracy

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has raised concerns over the withdrawal of his government-provided security, terming it a retaliatory move after his participation in peaceful protests against what he described as a failing government.

In a bold statement issued on Wednesday, Owino emphasized that his actions were not an attack on the nation but a stand for its future. “I exercised my democratic right to protest peacefully,” he said, expressing disappointment that the government responded by removing his security detail.

Owino criticized the move as a direct assault on democracy, asserting that such actions signal a leadership that fears accountability rather than one committed to serving its citizens.

“When elected representatives are punished for standing with the people, it is a sign of a government that fears accountability,” he remarked.

Despite the perceived intimidation, Owino declared his unwavering resolve. “I will not be silenced. My voice, and the voice of every citizen demanding justice, fairness, and freedom, will only grow louder,” he vowed, adding that the support of Kenyans is his ultimate security.

The MP called on citizens to remain vigilant and united, insisting that leaders must remain accountable to the people they serve.

“The truth cannot be suppressed. The movement for justice cannot be stopped,” Owino affirmed, pledging to continue his advocacy undeterred.

The withdrawal of Owino’s security raises questions about the balance between government authority and the protection of democratic rights in Kenya.
