A Senator Files Censure Motion against President William Ruto

Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has filed a censure motion against President William Ruto, claiming the President failed to protect Kenyans as envisioned in the constitution amidst rising cases of police brutality across the country.

This censure motion was received by the Clerk of the Senate on Tuesday, October 1, further outlined that the Head of State has also failed his constituents by cutting and delaying finance allocated to devolved units depriving development on several sectors including the sector of agriculture.

“William Samoei Ruto, the President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-In-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces is the Head of State and Government under Article 131 and the Chairperson of the National Security Council has failed to protect Kenyans against police brutality and killings and has reduced the allocation to counties and delayed financing to devolved units causing untold suffering to Kenyans who are sick by failing to devolve Health and Agriculture fully as required by Schedule (4) four of the constitution,” read the motion in part.

The Senator, elected on a Wiper party ticket, further accused Ruto of imposing punitive policies that embrace disunity and inequality in the country, giving instance with certain state programmes like the affordable housing programme and the Social Health Authority (SHA).

Through the motion, senator Maanzo expressed displeasure on behalf of the Senate, persuading his fellow senators to pitch on his motion to disaprove what he terms misconduct from Kenya’s Commander in Chief of the Defense Forces

“Now therefore the Senate pursuant to standing order 101(1) expresses displeasure and disappointment with the conduct of H.E. Dr. William Samo Ruto, CGH. as the President of Kenya and censures him,” he persuaded his colleagues.

A similar motion was also filed against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua a few days ago. Gachagua, besides, lies on a hot seat facing impeachment asa huge section of MPs now pushes for his removal from the office.

The impeachment motion against DP Gachagua was tabled at the National Assembly on Tuesday afternoon by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse
