75 Al-Shabaab Militants Killed in Central Somalia

A security official reported on Monday that the Somali military had killed 75 al-Shabaab terrorists during a counterterrorism operation in the province of Hiran in the country’s center.

The official spoke to Anadolu Agency on the condition of anonymity owing to limitations on speaking to the media after the army recaptured the village of Yasoman and took weapons from the terrorists.

In the meantime, a statement released by the Information Ministry on Sunday claimed that during recent operations around the nation, the military liberated 30 villages and killed 200 al-Shabaab terrorists.

This month, there have been more military operations in the Hiran region as the new administration asked civilians to help liberate villages from the al-Shabaab terrorist organization.

Al-Shabaab has been one of the biggest threats to the Horn of Africa nation of Somalia for years as it struggles with growing insecurity.

Al-Shabaab has been waging a murderous assault against the Somali government and outside forces at least since 2007.

In its annual assessments on Somalia this year, the UN warned of escalating instability in the nation and described attacks by al-Shabaab and pro-Daesh/ISIS organizations.

According to the UN in Somalia, terrorist acts in Somalia resulted in at least 1,518 civilian casualties (651 killed and 867 injured) in 2018, and 1,459 (591 killed and 868 injured) in 2019.
