A police officer was found dead on the roadside along the Manyatta-Kianjokoma road in Embu County on Saturday, December 28. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 35-year-old Collins Wafula, who was stationed at the Embu North Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) headquarters.
Embu North police boss Benjamin Kiprono confirmed the discovery, stating that Wafula was last seen leaving an end-of-year party at the DCC offices. He reportedly headed towards Kianjokoma, where he joined a group for drinks at a local bar. His whereabouts after leaving the bar remain unclear until his lifeless body was discovered by a passerby in the Kavutiri area.
“It is not yet clear whether this was a hit-and-run incident or if the officer was murdered elsewhere and his body dumped on the road,” Kiprono said.
Authorities are exploring the possibility of a road accident or foul play. Kiprono urged residents with information to come forward and assist in the investigation. The body has been moved to the mortuary pending further examination.
In a separate incident in Mbita, Homabay County, another police officer collapsed and died under unclear circumstances. The officer, a constable attached to Sena Police Station, was reportedly on duty and appeared healthy before collapsing suddenly.
His colleagues described him as fit at the time of his death. The body has also been moved to the mortuary for an autopsy as investigations continue.
Both incidents have raised concerns, with authorities emphasizing the importance of thorough investigations to establish the causes of death.
