President William Ruto yesterday met with retired president Uhuru Kenyatta, and details of their meeting have been revealed.
In the meeting, Ruto reportedly expressed gratitude to his predecessor for the seamless handover of power following the 2022 presidential elections, according to the State House. The timely resolution of the court matters, which was the primary barrier to the formation of the IEBC, was one of the other concerns that were discussed during the discussion between the two leaders.
However, rumours suggest that Ruto plans to bring former health cabinet secretary Mutahi Kagwe into the interior ministry, which has been vacant since Kithure Kindiki was sworn in as the deputy president last month.
Taking to his social media account on X, Ruto expressed his gratitude to Uhuru for his role in national issues. “I have had a fruitful engagement with Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta when I paid him a courtesy call at his Gatundu home, where we discussed national and regional issues. I thanked him for his continued role as a national statesman and for peace-making in the region. We called for an expeditious resolution of the court matters on IEBC and urged support for the candidacy of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for the chair of the African Union Commission.” He tweeted.
