Marya Okoth, comedian YY’s ex-partner has revealed her experience and the cost she has paid to be on the public eye.
Speaking during an interview with Nairobi News, the mother of one spoke about the good things as well as the repercussions that come along with fame.
Directly pointing on the way social media has changed her life, being her major source of income, Marya recognized the good surprise she has received for being on spotlight.
“Social media has completely changed my life. I never thought it could become a source of income or a career path for me. It has given me a level of fame I never imagined.” She said.
However, she claimed that being on spotlight comes with challenges as well, for it demands of someone to strictly live a certain way because you are always on public scrutiny when you become a public figure.
“One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that you can’t control how people perceive you. While you can shape your actions and carry yourself well, you can’t dictate what others think.” She added.
She claims that her way of life after hitting fame, has received reformation acknowledging that some changes have shaped her life positively and others, negatively.
“I see both the good and the bad as important reminders of the choices I have made. I don’t want to forget any part of my journey because every moment has contributed to who I am today.”
Marya also admitted that her career in social media has come at the cost of personal privacy.
“One of the biggest sacrifices I’ve made is trading my personal life for my career. Social media requires a certain level of openness, and sometimes that means letting people into your personal space. There is also the pressure to appear perfect in public. People don’t expect you to make mistakes, and when you do, they’re quick to judge.” She revealed.
She openly shared her experiences, a few months after parting ways with his baby daddy, YY comedian.
