ODPC Seeks to Strengthen Cyber Security and Data Protection in Humanitarian Action

The Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) has sought to strengthen Cyber security and data protection in humanitarian actions.

This followed a successful participation of the Deputy Data Commissioner Research and Strategy John Walubengo, CISA, CDPSE, (0GW), in the launch of the Kenya Redcross Data & digital transformation strategy.

The said strategy, aims to harness the power of data and digital technologies to transform humanitarian action and deliver impactful, inclusive and sustainable services.

In his closing remarks during the symposium on cyber security and data protection in humanitarian action, John Walubengo emphasized the need to ensure safeguarding personal data and upholding the dignity of individuals by organization in the sector as they deploy new technologies to improve service delivery.

This launching program follows a series of awareness roadshow campaigns held by the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) in the previous week, across Kisii County, marking the sixth county in a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing understanding of data protection across the country.

This also followed similar programs held in Nyeri, Kajiado, Homa Bay, Garissa, and Baringo counties, with support from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH

The program included a dynamic mix of sensitization forums and roadshows aimed to raise awareness about data protection rights. Through these initiatives, the ODPC aims to empower individuals with insights into data privacy laws and the responsibilities of data controllers and processors.
