Activist Boniface Mwangi Freed Hours after Abduction

Calls to free activist Boniface Mwangi have eventually been heard with close sources now revealing that the Human Rights activist has been released hours after spending a night in police custody.

In a video, shared by fellow human rights activist Hussein Khalid, currently going viral across socal media platforms, Mwangi is seen reuniting with his wife and children outside the Kamukunji police station where he was held.

“I can confirm firmly that Boniface Mwangi has been freed with no charges. Wife, children and friends were there during his release,” Khalid stated.

Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua was also present at the reunion, blaming the government for being oppressive to activists who are echoing the voice of millions of Kenya.

Mwangi was on Sunday, arrested and taken to Kamukunji Police Station following his remarks regarding a plan to infiltrate the Standard Chartered Marathon. His remarks were termed as inciting leading for his arrest.

A section of fellow activists, led by Okiya Omtatah, senator of Busia, demanded for the release of reformist Boniface Mwangi, asking State Agencies to respect the constitution.

“According to the Occurrence Book, he faces accusations of inciting violence for simply expressing his views on social media, stating ‘Ruto must go!’ in a country where free speech should be protected.” He stated via his X-account.

According to Omtatah who expressed his displeasure with how the state handled Mwangi, such arrests are “troubling situation for our democracy” adding that Kenyans must raise their voices in solidarity to demand for democracy from the government.
