Kenya’s leading telecommunication company, Safaricom, has announced extension of MPESA global services to another East African country.
Sharing this significant milestone to with its esteemed subscribers via social media, the company has invested hopes with the move aimed to enhance cross-border mobile money transfer between Kenya and Ethiopia.
“We are excited to announce we have expanded M-PESA Global service to Ethiopia! In collaboration with Safaricom Ethiopia, we’re making cross-border mobile money transfers faster, safer, and more affordable,” read in part of the post.
This move will enable Ethiopian and Kenyan M-PESA users, particularly Ethiopians living in Kenya and Kenyans working in Ethiopia, to send money directly to and from both of the countries to their M-PESA wallet
“This is especially beneficial for Ethiopians living in Kenya and Kenyans working in Ethiopia, and anyone with business ties in both countries,” the post further read.
Taking pride of the forward step, Safaricom explained that its collaboration with MPESA will now strengthen financial integration in East Africa, supporting the adoption of digital payments and boosting local economies as well.
