Raila Odinga has officially launched his bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairmanship at State House in Nairobi.
The event was attended by several high-profile leaders, including:- President William Ruto of Kenya- President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda- President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania- President Salva Kiir of South Sudan- The Prime Minister of Burundi.
While addressing the delegates, Odinga stated that he is encouraged by the support of his country and the East African region.
“I stand before you here as a candidate for the chairperson of the African Union Commission. I am encouraged and humbled by the collective support from my country and the East African region.
The official unveiling of my candidacy as Kenya’s nominee for the Chairmanship of the AUC is a major milestone in my bid, and I’m so happy that my brothers and sisters have taken their time to be here physically,” added Raila Odinga.
In his remarks, the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, added that Odinga is not just a Kenyan candidate but an African candidate who holds the dreams and hopes of millions of Africans.
“Raila Odinga is not just Kenya’s candidate; he is Africa’s candidate. A man who holds firm to the dreams and hopes of millions of Africans. He is a Pan-Africanist who has emerged at the right time to drive Africa’s transformation,” said Musalia Mudavadi.
Raila Odinga will compete with three other candidates for the seat.
