President William Ruto has departed for Kigali, Rwanda to attend the official coronation of President Paul Kagame for his fourth term.
In a statement issued by State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, it was noted that President Ruto, at the invitation of President Kagame, left the country this morning.
According to Mohamed, the visit aims to further bolster Kenya-Rwanda relations, which have blossomed and are contributing to the mutual benefit of both countries and the region.
“President @WilliamsRuto travels to Kigali, Rwanda, today at the invitation of H.E. Paul Kagame @PaulKagame to attend the inauguration ceremony of President Kagame for his fourth term, following the successful July 15th election. Under President Kagame, Kenya-Rwanda relations have blossomed, with commercial and people-to-people ties further consolidating for the mutual benefit of both countries and the region,” said a statement issued by Hussein Mohamed.
This is President Ruto’s first trip outside the country in two months since the deadly demonstrations by Gen Zs, who were demanding accountability from his government over state expenditure in activities such as foreign travels.
Kagame won the presidential vote with over 80% to retain his position as the fourth president of the country, despite claims of vote fraud and misconduct from his opponents during the general election.
