10,000 meters Olympic Champion Beatrice Chebet has said she dedicates the gold medal to all Kenyans, who she feels should be proud of her victory in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Speaking to the media in Paris, where she participated in the ongoing Olympics, Chebet said that all she wanted was to win and make Kenyans happy, and to enjoy every win because they deserve every bit of it.
“This was for you. You were in my mind in every lap. I might have made history, but I will sleep knowing that Kenyans will enjoy the weekend,” said Beatrice.
Initially, she had stated she was going to end the medal drought for Kenya in the 10,000 meters women’s event, and indeed, for the first time in history, Kenya has brought home gold in the 10,000m Olympic women’s race.
This is her second medal in the competition, having also won another in the 5,000 meters, and she now becomes one of the athletes to win back-to-back gold medals in the Olympics.
Kenya has now won more Olympic gold medals at Paris 2024 than any other African nation, and all have been won by Beatrice Chebet.
