In a bold and audacious heist, two employees of Wells Fargo Company have gone missing, disappearing into thin air with a staggering Ksh. 94,918,750. The sum, intended for delivery to Family Bank on behalf of Quickmart Supermarket, has left authorities baffled.
The story begins on a seemingly ordinary Monday morning, when Wells Fargo’s driver, Anthony Ndiuki, and Charles Mugetha, embarked on what should have been a routine cash delivery operation. The duo left the company’s South C offices at approximately 8:30 a.m., an operation normally carried out with police escort.
However, the unexpected twist to this tale unfolded when the company’s vehicle, an Isuzu Canter with registration number KBA 517 T, was discovered abandoned in the Dafam area of South C, next to the southern bypass.
The culprits, along with the colossal sum of money, were nowhere to be found.
The incident was reported by George Jaramba, Wells Fargo Nairobi’s Investigation Manager, at 7:09 a.m. on that fateful Monday morning. It was revealed that Ndiuki and Mugetha had indeed collected the money from the Wells Fargo vault as per protocol but had chosen to deviate from the standard procedure. Instead of having armed police officers accompany them, the two decided to proceed without the customary escort. This daring move didn’t go unnoticed. The police officers who were supposed to accompany the Wells Fargo team immediately raised the alarm when they realized the vehicle had vanished along with the substantial cash it carried.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Langata swiftly took charge of the case, launching a widespread manhunt for the elusive suspects, identified as Daniel Mungai and Anthony Nduiki.
This incident has added to a string of cash heists involving security company staff in recent years, marking a disturbing trend that has caught the attention of law enforcement.
As the investigation unfolds, the burning question on everyone’s mind is whether this heist is an inside job, given the seemingly coordinated nature of the escape.
The streets of Nairobi are buzzing with curiosity and apprehension as authorities intensify their efforts to track down the audacious thieves and recover the missing millions. The fate of the missing money and the mystery behind the two fugitive employees continue to grip the city, leaving a sense of uncertainty and intrigue in its wake.
