What An Unconventional Fathers’ Day! Call It The Bahatis’ Way

Mr. and Mrs. Bahati, also known as Kevin Bahati and Diana Marua, are a well-known Kenyan celebrity couple. Kevin Bahati, popularly known as Bahati or Mtoto Wa Mama (Mama’s Boy), is a gospel artist and songwriter, while Diana Marua is a model, influencer, and entrepreneur. The couple became known to the public when they started dating and eventually got married. Their relationship garnered attention due to the significant age difference between them, as Diana Marua is older than Bahati. However, they have been open about their love and have shared their journey as a couple on social media platforms and even YouTube especially through their popular reality show titled, ‘Being Bahati.’

The Bahatis seem to almost always be up to some mischief or unconventional behaviour attracting significant attention which often leads to a stir on the internet characterised by scrutiny, and criticism from the public, media, and fans. Their ‘display of affection’ on this year’s Father’s day was barely free of their unique recipe of awkward, unexpected, surprisingly mind boggling antics.

Father’s Day, a holiday whose origin can be traced back to the early 20th century, is celebrated in many countries around the world to recognise the contributions and influence of fathers in the lives of their children and society as a whole, honouring and appreciating fathers and father figures. It is typically observed on the third Sunday of June every year in most countries, although the exact date may vary depending on the location.

Kenya is one of the countries that have been consistently celebrating Father’s Day since decades past. Ever since the essence of the holiday gained recognition and popularity in Kenya during the early 1980’s, Father’s Day in Kenya is normally marked by; special family gatherings: where quality time is spent through shared meals or outings; gift-giving is common: with personalised items or experiences being favoured; expressing gratitude to fathers: through verbal and written messages, acts of service, and support is customary; churches hold dedicated services: featuring sermons and prayers for fathers; and, in this information age when digital communication is rampant, Kenyans utilise social media platforms to publicly share tributes and photos, showcasing their love and appreciation.

Social media has significantly impacted how Kenyans celebrate Father’s Day. With platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, individuals have a public space to share their heartfelt messages, photos, and tributes to their fathers. In essence, Father’s Day in Kenya unites families in honouring and celebrating fathers, but then, somewhere in Kenya there are the Bahatis’, Kenya’s beloved controversial celebrity couple.

In a video posted on Mr. Bahati’s Instagram account, the renowned artist and songwriter is seen attempting to get out  from underneath Mrs. Bahati’s (Diana Marua) thick thigh which had his head trapped and pinned on a bed. While Bahati struggles to gently grab and lift Diana’s write thigh so as to free his trapped head, a jovial Diana Marua giggles and smiles while telling Bahati he has no one else to blame but himself for being in that tight situation.

The caption reads, “😂😂😂 While Other Fathers Wanaamkia Sweet Happy Fathers Day wishes from their Wives @Diana_marua ako hapa Kuni Embarazzz 😂😂😂”

If you thought we’d seen the end of their Father’s Day celebrations with that late afternoon post, think again. Early this morning while most of us were waking up to motivational posts on social media about how to tackle Monday moods and conquer a brand new week in pursuit of financial prosperity, the Bahati’s had other plans. It started with Bahati’s early morning post in which he sought to get the public’s opinion on what to gift his wife, FOR FATHER’S DAY! In an image posted in Meme format, Bahati claimed to have discovered the reason why his loving wife didn’t bother to take the initiative to wish him a happy Father’s Day this year, alleging that it’s because it has been over an year ever since he gifted her.

At around noon today 19th June 2023, the Bahati’s jointly posted a nostalgic video of when Bahati gifted his wife and their lovely family a majestic mansion, which is apparently the last significant gift Bahati gave Diana.

“How do you say that you adore me, you Treasure me, I’m the best thing that has happened in your life yet the Last Gift I Received from you was More than a Year ago??? 🤷‍♂️TEAM DIANA & THE PREMIER GANG LET’S GATHER ON YOUTUBE AT 3PM TO SEE IF @BAHATIKENYA REMEMBERS HOW TO DO SURPRISES 😮” read the caption which was written by Diana

And as usual, an assortment of opinions followed the post…

redemtahlumbasi: Haka kamama kanaboo. With all the things Baha has done for her she could not just appreciate her husband on father’s day simply because its been a year since she was gifted??? So no gifts no love ??? Sad!

millzabdizaque: Vanity + Vanity = Vanity.

yvonne_wangare: The most loved wife in East and Central Africa🔥🔥🔥🔥ndo uyu sasa

annaciator_makau: Anything for clout

millychebby Verified: We are ready for it 🙌🙌🙌🙌

namatovu_saudah: If u know u are a tree gather we make a forest 😂😂😂.

By the time this article was published, Bahati was yet to post again about Father’s Day. These digital displays of appreciation not only provide a platform for expressing love and gratitude but also serve as an inspiration for others. It creates a sense of community as people come together to celebrate and honour fathers, amplifying the celebration beyond immediate families.

As seen in the case of the Bahatis, mothers can also be honoured along with fathers on Father’s day, a trend which has been on the rise in recent years especially for single parent families who’s mother is seen to play a fatherly role as well as far as raising children is concerned,

Join us later this afternoon to find out what Bahati has in store for his one of a kind wife Diana Marua Bahati, as a gift for no other holiday but Father’s Day. In the meantime, feel free to leave a comment below this story.
