Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has fulfilled his job promise to Conjestina Achieng, a former Kenyan boxing champion and the first African woman to get an international recognition, by offering her a job as gym instructor and head of security at the Salama Bling Beach Resort in Kanamai, Kilifi County.
Months ago, Sonko had promised to employ Conjestina as soon as she would be out of rehab.
Sharing on his twitter handle, Sonko revealed that Conjestina will be working at the facility and only visit home under supervision and get back to work in bid to protect her from any external influences that might potentially drag her back to drug and substance abuse. This is also the reason Sonko has now changed his initial plan to employ the former boxer at his Mombasa night club, Club Volume, as the Head of security.
“Conje will be the gym instructor and head security at Salama Bling Beach Resort, Kanamai. Together with her sister, coach, and son, we inspected the hotel where she’ll be working and they all agreed. She will now be making a living inorder to support her family, lakini tumeelewana nawao kwamba Siaya hatarudi tena atakuwa anaenda kusalimie under supervision na kurudi,” Mike Sonko wrote.
“My initial plan for Conje after healing was to employ her as the Head of security operations at the international Club Volume but changed my mind after thinking through what she has gone through before on drug and substance abuse. I don’t want her around any environment associated with drugs.” He added.
The moneyed former Nairobi boss came to the rescue of the renowned boxer when she was battling drug and substance abuse while in her home county, Siaya. Sonko, the father of charity works, then facilitated her admission to a Mombasa-based rehabilitation center where she underwent treatment and recovery.
