Outside the Siaya County Assembly, tensions are rising ahead of the debate on Siaya deputy governor William Oduol Denge’s impeachment motion.
Anti-riot police in a Landcruiser was spotted patrolling the Assembly. East Asembo MCA Gordon Onguru introduced the impeachment motion at 9:30 a.m. By 9:00 a.m, a private film company had put up cameras inside the Chamber, preparing to live stream the impeachment procedure. Typically, only’special events’ are live streamed by the Siaya County Assembly.
The Assembly personnel had also made preparations, and a polling booth had been put up in the chamber. The MCAs stormed into the chamber shortly after 9:00 a.m. for a closed-door informal session before of the formal discussion. The Siaya ODM Coordinating Committee removed Oduol from the ODM party yesterday.
He was also subject to an immediate removal request from the Committee. A portion of the MCAs present at a fundraiser in the East Asembo ward on Friday promised to send Oduol home.
