Gachagua Pledges To Combat Cartels And Brokers In The Coffee Industry

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has pledged to dismantle cartels in the coffee industry in a bid to address the challenges hurting farmers’ income.

In order to better the status of the farmers, Gachagua stated that the government would deal decisively with the numerous brokers and intermediaries in the coffee production chain.

Between the coffee farmer and the consumer, there are numerous brokers. Farmers have been victimized by these brokers for a long time. I was given the task of leading the effort to cut out the intermediaries so that the farmer can reap more by President William Ruto,” he stated.

Gachagu spoke on Friday while unveiling a (NG-CDF) funded school bus at St. Benedict Wamutitu Secondary School in Mukurweini, Nyeri County.

To address the issues the industry is facing, he claimed to have organized a three-day meeting in Meru for stakeholders in the coffee industry. The coffee conference, according to the Deputy President, will take place from June 6 to June 8.
