Kawira Mwangaza, the governor of Meru, reprimanded Mpuru Aburi of Tigania East and Moses Kirima of Central Imenti for accusing her of skipping a national government event in the county.
The governor was referred to as a lone ranger by the MPs last week after she skipped an event when Immigration PS Julius Bitok opened a civil registration office in Kaguru, South Imenti. Mwangaza requested that the MPs ignore her and concentrate on their own development agendas as parliamentarians when she spoke on Monday at Kiamwitari in North Imenti.
People should advise Kirima not to join conflicts he is unfamiliar with, Mwangaza said. “He should focus on his development agenda as a legislator and let me do mine as the governor.”
The county chief predicted that she would easily defeat Kirima if she ran for MP. Aburi advised Mwangaza to collaborate with other MPs rather than working alone. Mwangaza, however, claimed that the MPs were interfering with her leadership for their own purposes.
Mutuma M’ithinkia, the deputy governor of Meru, defended the governor by claiming she was not there at the ceremony where PS Bitok opened the Civil Registration Office. The Meru MPs who planned the event couldn’t keep the governor in the dark about it before coming to her with accusations afterwards, according to Mutuma. Additionally, Mwangaza claimed that Senator Kathuri Murungi was responsible for her December impeachment motion in the Meru parliament. She claimed that although he appeared to be carrying water to put out the fire, it was actually gasoline.
The senator was referred to by the governor of Meru as “Gakobia,” or “the man with a cap,” and he was accused of pretending to perform an oversight function while intending to compete for governor in 2027.
The two leaders have recently engaged in a verbal battle, with Murungi declaring he will set up a select committee to look into the county’s use of public cash. Mwangaza, however, asserted that the senator’s desire for oversight is untrue and that he is seeking to discredit her in order to gain the governor’s office.
