2 Go Into Hiding After Machogu’s Orders Over Cruel Punishment in Kisii

Two people, a teacher and a watchman fled on Wednesday, April 12 after orders from the Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu to arrest after it was reported that they brutally punished a student in Kisii County.

The two were among a group of five that caused a 19-year-old student to lose his testicle following extremely brutal punishment.

Machogu declared the teachers as criminals and that they shall be prosecuted in court for the damages caused to the boy. He faulted their professionalism as he dismissed their service as teachers.

“This is so disturbing and criminal. It is no longer an educational matter, it is a criminal matter, if a teacher goes to that extent, then he is a criminal and he is no longer a teacher,” the CS stated.

“The law should take its course and they should be punished accordingly. They should be taken to court and dismissed from service,” the CS added.

In liaison with the Kisii County Police Commander Charles Kases, three more suspects involved in the incident were arrested and will be arraigned in court on Thursday, April 13. Machogu noted that the ministry will follow Article 29 of the Constitution which prohibits corporal punishment, torture, or cruel punishment.

Speaking with difficulty due to pain in hospital, the victim, who is a student of Nyabisia secondary school in kisii narrated a heart-rending tale of torture at the hands of 5 of his teachers and a school security guard who brutalised him with severe beatings that damaged his testicle that was later on removed.

The student was found allegedly cheating in the end term exams when he was caught with a leaked paper which was going round in class and he had just gotten hold of it.

“They took me to the staff room, tossed me to the ground several times before they tied me up and started beating me for about two hours,” he narrated.

This is the second incident involving rogue teachers beating up and leading to a student losing his testis, after minor offenses by students. A week ago, another student suffered the same fate after bbeatings by his teachers.
