A group of Kikuyu traditionalists have burnt down an alleged flag of LGBTQ community. The flag is claimed to have been raised at the peak of Mount Kenya four years ago.
On Sunday, a group of ten climbers came down from the mountain in which the whole course took them two days. They brought back with them the alleged flag which was later set on fire at Naromoru in Kieni East Sub-county, Nyeri County.
This was followed by the Kikuyu elders performing a cleansing rite of the same. The elders claimed that the ashes from the burnt flag will later be disposed in a river that flows into the Indian Ocean.
They also revealed that raising of the flag at the peak of Mount Kenya desecrated the holy shrines of the Kikuyu community. It was also clear that Mt Kenya is the place that Kikuyu community believes their God, Mwenenyaga, resides as they always pray while facing the mountain as it is their Supreme Altar.
The treasurer of Booi Wa Kîrîra Kîa Mugîkûyû which is a group of Kikuyu people fighting for Kikuyu culture, Murugu wa Kimari, indicated that people should look around and notice that the bad things that are happening in the society are not ordinary. He added that God is not happy with us and our deeds.
“Our people should pause and ask themselves why all these bad things are occurring in the community, including unexplained killings almost on a daily basis,” he said.
A member of the group named Ngarau Njonjo said that the community should get a clear message from the uprooting of the flag as this shows that they are not ready to let their community be used as a “doormat” for all types of alien practices.
