Eugene Wamalwa, a former chief of the defence staff, has criticized the police for their decision to deem the planned Azimio protests illegal.
Speaking on Sunday, Wamalwa claimed that despite the constitution’s authorization, Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome erred in dismissing the protest. He claimed that this week, he and other Azimio officials gave the police notice of the upcoming nonviolent protests.
“We won’t allow the police to use any justification to harm or murder any Kenyans. As Bungei received the notification from Azimio, “said Wamalwa.
“We have complied with the law, and in our nation, the law is supreme.”
Earlier, IG Koome prohibited the Azimio la Umoja Coalition’s planned nationwide protests. No one will be able to hold demonstrations the following week, he claimed. Although protests are a Kenyans’ right and do not depend on the pity of the police, the President, or anybody else, the former CS claimed that the police are required to provide security.
Wamalwa urged Kenyans to take to the streets and protest. Koome urged Kenyans to go to work as usual and carry out their daily responsibilities while promising to deploy more security personnel.
“More staff will be sent throughout the county to guarantee everyone’s safety. Nobody can scare us, he declared.
The IG added that the problems that politicians are bringing up are political in nature and ought to be handled politically.
“We don’t know the location of the server they’re referring to. We request that they speak to them politically, Koome continued.
On Monday, March 27, from dawn till nightfall, the Raila-led coalition will stage its nationwide demonstrations in Nairobi and other cities while President William Ruto is away in Berlin. Anyone who tries to obstruct commerce will be dealt with appropriately, according to Ruto. No one, he asserted, is exempt from the law when it comes to the destruction of destruction.
