Popular comedian, Eric Omondi, has intervened to the release of eight women from Lang’ata Women’s Prison.
This comes a few days after he aided a businesswoman who had been arrested and sentenced for shouting in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) while calling customers to buy her goods.
Joyce Naserian had been jailed for three months at Lang’ata Women’s Prison after she failed to pay a cash bail of Sh.10000.
After Naserian was released, Omondi promised to start an initiative which will be bailing out petty offenders who are currently jailed in different prisons in Kenya.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with bloggers on Wednesday, Omondi lamented on the Kenyan way of justice delivery where he claimed that the real criminals are free while the innocent ones are in jail.
One of the women who were released, Mary Ndunge, indicated that she was arrested for hawking soda around matatus and no one was remorseful enough to release her because of her two years kid to whom she had left in the daycare.
Ndunge added that no one knew that she was in jail and she didn’t know the whereabouts of her kid.
Michelle Nyaboke also narrated her case where she was arrested by four officials of Nairobi city council as she headed out of Kenyatta National Hospital to check on her ailing child.
Another lady named Lucy explained how she was arrested on her way to buy milk at Shauri Moyo.
She was later charged with touting where she was supposed to pay a cash bail of Sh.5000 but she couldn’t afford.
The president of comedy explained how women are suffering in prisons for petty offences which they can’t bail themselves out due to increased unemployment in the country.
He added that he will continue fighting for Kenyans rights as long as he lives.
Omondi also lamented on the increasing numbers of prisoners who are accused of petty offences adding that he bailed eight of them where as 100 more were brought in.
He asked the authorities involved to be considerable and stop sentencing petty offenders but rather offer them employment opportunities.
The president of Mbunge La Mwananchi, Gauchi also claimed that those in power are misusing their authority instead of helping Kenyans.
Omondi in association with US-based Bernice Saroni are set to bail out more petty offenders around the country.
