A group of Kiambu MCAs have urged governor Wamatangi to follow through on his pledge to deliver the ward bursaries during their previous meeting.
Muchatha MCA Karanja Kamau told Star that the governor is not prepared to award the scholarships.
He pointed out that nothing is being done to establish the foundation and structure; all he is doing is promising to release. It’s either he releases the monies or we file a motion of no confidence in him, he said. “Governor Wamatangi should tell the truth and set a good example,” he added.
He added that the governor doesn’t involve elected officials in the County’s growth. Also, Governor Wamatangi informed the Star that the cash will be released the next week.
The governor explained that the committees were being assembled at the time the bursary was little delayed. He stated that since the committee members have been gazetted in accordance with the legislation, the procedure is complete.
Wamatangi stated, “We are now prepared to distribute the bursary applications to individuals, and once they have been submitted, I will sign the check to release the funds.
Wamatangi stated that he will distribute Sh100 million, and that he will introduce a supplementary budget in the county assembly in March that will appropriate an extra Sh100 million to the fund. In May, the kitty will be distributed.
Kamau, a Kikuyu ward MCA James Boro advised Wamatangi to work with assembly to see that any unfinished tasks left by his predecessor are finished. He encouraged the governor to disburse the monies, repeating Karanja’s comments.
“Wamatangi has not made available the monies intended to assist the poor students, “Noted he.
Godfrey Waiyaki Mucheke, the majority leader and MCA for the Kalimoni ward, stated that the process is almost over and asked leaders to have patience.
According to him, the County has already put aside Sh100 million, and the governor must approve it before it can be distributed.
He said that although there had been a snag in the process, it had been fixed, and the announcement will be made in two weeks.
“Everything is prepared, and the governor and the education CEC now have the responsibility of announcing when the funds will be distributed to the ward level, “added he.
He stated that the forms will be delivered to the ward level, where voters would have the chance to select and complete them.
According to Kiamwangi MCA Kung’u Smart, the cash would aid in educating the least fortunate members of society. He pleaded on the governor to improve service delivery by collaborating with all elected officials. We want all leaders to collaborate to improve service delivery because Kiambu needs peace, Kung’u remarked. MCA in Ngenda Ward Last Monday, Wamatangi was urged by Joe Kigara, the leader of the minority, to provide services to everyone or face impeachment.
According to him, Wamatangi has been working independently without consulting the County’s elected officials, which is disrespectful. Governor Wamatangi was not available when reached for comment, despite repeated attempts.
