Kawira Mwangaza And Meru MCAs Bury The Hatchet, Forge Unity

Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza and the ward representatives have finally made peace after a five month long feud.

This is after on Monday, February 20, the Governor was accorded a warm reception to the County Assembly by the MCAs ahead of their planned private meeting.

Mwangaza received by MCAs at the county assembly.

The county boss later revealed that they resolved to work together for the benefit of Meru residents.

While addressing the media shortly after the meeting, Mwangaza said each ward rep will now get Ksh10 million for development as opposed to the KSH 25 million they had earlier on demanded.

“We have resolved that Meru is bigger than any individual. We will work with what we have now. This has been done in the interest of the people. Those who were happy because of our wrangles let them find something else to do.” Mwangaza remarked.

The Monday talks between the governor and the MCAs were spearheaded by Meru Woman Representative Karambu Kailemia on directions by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who last month met the MCAs and the Governor separately with the aim of brokering a truce between them.

The county head was impeached after 112 days in office over alleged gross misconduct, the appointment of her husband to the county office and claims over the dismissal of county officers, with all MCAs present at the assembly voting unanimously.

Mwangaza however survived the impeachment at the Senate on December 30, 2022, after she was not found guilty of the allegations by a Special Senate committee formed to probe into the matter.
