Leaders Point Out Fingers at ‘Yesu wa Tongaren’ Amidst Shakahola Investigations

The ongoing investigations surrounding cult pastor Paul Mackenzie Nthenge of the Good News International Church has caused public uproar with millions of Kenyans now demanding the government to regulate religious places.

As of Tuesday April 25, 2023, over 60 bodies have been exhumed from the graves in Shakahola forest in Kilifi county.

The matter, addressed by the Head of State William Ruto on Monday 24, April will see various religious places and their leaders investigated to make sure the government agencies offer Kenyans their freedom of worship conducive enough not to harm anyone’s lives and their rights as enshrined in the constitution.

This comes, after it emerged that controversial pastor Paul Mackenzie urged followers to fast to death with a promise that there will meet Christ upon their death.

As a consequence of the ongoing investigation case linking pastor Paul Mackenzie with the mass death of his followers, leaders have urged the government to move with speed and act on other religious leaders who are manipulating innocent Kenyans.

Speaking with NTV during a talkshow, at which she honoured investigations, Angela Minayo on Tuesday April 25, urged the government to act on characters faking themselves citing a possibility to endanger lives in the near future.

She mentioned the Bungoma man who has been alleging that he is the son of God, ‘Yesu wa Tongaren’ inciting the government to never assume the man as he has recently been radicalizing the residents from Tongaren.

She said:

We are forgetting Yesu wa Tongaren… as a nation, we shouldn’t wait for people to die to take notice… we have failed as a society because we have not put checks and balances in religious institutions.
