Trans Nzoia, Kenya – Governor George Natembeya has announced significant changes in his cabinet aimed at improving service delivery across the county.
In the reshuffled lineup, Samson Ojwang’ retains his role as the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health Services and Sanitation while taking on additional responsibilities as the CECM for Public Service Management.
Chanelle Kittony, the Roads and Public Works CECM, has been assigned extra duties as the acting CECM for Gender, Youth, Sports, and Culture. Similarly, Pepela Wanjala, the Finance and Economic Planning CECM, will temporarily oversee the Water, Environment, Natural Resources, and Climate Change docket.
Phanice Khatundi continues to lead the Agriculture, Irrigation, Livestock, and Fisheries department and will now act as the CECM for Lands, Housing, Physical Planning, and Urban Development. Patrick Gacheru retains his position as the Trade and Industrialization CECM.
Notably, Janerose Mutama, who faced impeachment by the County Assembly of Trans Nzoia, remains in the cabinet. Governor Natembeya has reassigned her from Lands, Housing, Physical Planning, and Urban Development to head the Department of Education and Vocational Training.
These changes underscore Governor Natembeya’s commitment to optimizing his administration for better service delivery. “This reshuffle reflects the need to ensure efficient governance and address emerging priorities,” he stated.
The cabinet adjustments come amidst ongoing debates on governance within the county. Observers note that the decision to retain Mutama despite her impeachment by the County Assembly is likely to spark further discussions.
