The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced a change in venue for the public viewing of the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga’s body following an overwhelming turnout of mourners in Nairobi. In a statement released on Thursday, 16th October 2025, ODM’s Director of Communications, Philip Etale, confirmed that the event has been moved from Parliament Buildings to Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
According to the statement, the decision was reached after security and logistical teams raised concerns about crowd management in the central business district, where thousands had gathered since morning.
“Due to the surging number of mourners, the viewing of the body of HE Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga has been moved from Parliament Buildings to Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani,” the press release stated.
The party urged members of the public to proceed to Kasarani, assuring them that the new venue would offer adequate space and time for everyone to pay their last respects. Etale emphasized that the change was made purely out of consideration for public safety and comfort, as the numbers far exceeded initial expectations.
The shift to Kasarani underscores the magnitude of Raila Odinga’s influence and the deep emotional connection Kenyans feel toward the veteran leader. The stadium is expected to host thousands more mourners in the coming days as the country continues to honor and celebrate the life of one of its most iconic political figures.
