Kenya now seeks to strengthen its bilateral partnership with Botswana, following the new regime that comes with President Duma Boko who was sworn-in on Saturday November 8, 2024.
Duma Boko officially assumed presidency of Botswana after holding a successful inauguration, on an event attended by Kenya’s Deputy President Kithure Kindiki. Kindiki, further held a meeting with president Duma Boko, touching on ways to expand economic ties between the two countries.
“Kenya considers Botswana an ally in continental economic development, peace and security, tourism, education, health and renewable energy. The two countries have shared experiences in politics, democracy, development and trade that date back to the independence struggle,” read part of statement made by DP Kindiki on his socials.
With a total of 1,200 Kenyan citizens currently residing and working in Botswana, Kindiki stated that the Government of Kenya appreciates the cordial treatment accorded to Kenya’s professionals who have over the time contributed to the setting up of governance and education structures in Botswana.
Aside from working purely on trading sectors to bolster the economic boundaries between the two countries, this exclusive also focused on cooperation in the areas of climate change, tourism, mining, cooperatives management and regional peace, security and stability.
On behalf of Kenya, DP Kindiki also presented to President Duma Boko, Kenya’s request to support the candidature of Hon. Raila Odinga to chair the African Union Commission (AUC) even as Raila Odinga continues to traverse the entire Africa to sell his ideologies and transformative agendas he has put in place to enhance trade and economic cooperation across African continent.
