Fuel Prices Drop for Petrol and Kerosene in Latest Review

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced new pump prices for petroleum products that will take effect from August 15 to September 14, 2025, in line with Section 101(y) of the Petroleum Act 2019 and Legal Notice No. 192 of 2022.

In the latest monthly review, the maximum retail prices for Super Petrol and Kerosene have each been reduced by KSh1.00 per litre, while the price of Diesel remains unchanged.

In Nairobi, motorists will now pay KSh185.31 per litre for Super Petrol, KSh171.58 for Diesel, and KSh155.58 for Kerosene. The revised prices take effect at midnight and will remain in force for the next 30 days.

EPRA noted that the prices are inclusive of the 16 percent Value Added Tax (VAT), in accordance with the Finance Act 2023 and the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024. They also reflect the revised excise duty rates adjusted for inflation as stipulated in Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.

The price changes come amid fluctuating global oil prices and exchange rate shifts, which continue to influence local pump prices. The modest decrease in petrol and kerosene costs is expected to offer slight relief to households and motorists, especially as kerosene remains a key source of energy for many low-income households.

Diesel, whose price has remained stable, is widely used in public transport, agriculture, and manufacturing. Any significant changes in its pricing often have a direct impact on the cost of goods and services across the economy.

EPRA conducts monthly fuel price reviews to ensure that local pump prices reflect global market trends, importation costs, and applicable taxes.
