Engineers Golf Day at Ruiru Raises Funds for Student Memberships

The Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) brought together hundreds of engineers for the annual Engineers Golf Day at Ruiru Sports Club, an event that blended sport, networking, and mentorship with a noble cause.

The tournament, which attracted more than 250 golfers, was aimed at raising funds to support engineering students across the country in joining the professional body. IEK President, Eng. Shammah Kiteme said the initiative will ensure that no student misses out on membership opportunities due to financial constraints.

“The funds raised will cover membership fees for students, allowing them to benefit from mentorship, professional growth, and a smooth transition into the engineering fraternity,” said Kiteme. He noted that with over 2,500 students enrolling in engineering6 programs annually, the initiative is a vital investment in nurturing the next generation of engineers.

Participants lauded the tournament as a powerful platform for bonding and knowledge exchange within the engineering fraternity. “This idea was mooted to bring engineers together so they can network, understand each other’s work, and strengthen the profession,” said Eng. Okova Derek, a participant in the event.

Ruiru Sports Club Captain, Justus Mathenge, said the club was delighted to host the engineers in what he described as a lively and7 well-sponsored round of golf. “It’s a good experience having engineers come together, play golf, sponsor a round, and also share ideas on how the engineering agenda is progressing in the country. Today we’re hosting about 250 players, and as always, Ruiru remains the home of hospitality,” he said.

The day featured not only competitive golf but also social bonding moments, including a nyama choma treat and evening prize-giving.
