Egypt’s Green Hydrogen Policy Could Improve Its Geopolitical Standing.

The German broadcaster Deutsche Welle emphasized the Egyptian government’s unveiling of an ambitious green hydrogen policy.

At the upcoming climate conference, COP27, in Sharm el-Sheikh in November, the strategy will unveil a new energy vision for green hydrogen, it was further said.

Egypt’s multifaceted strategy may strengthen Egypt’s geopolitical position and result in commercial success.

The network noted that Egypt possesses several of the elements needed to develop into a leader in renewable energy, including a sizable domestic market, plenty of sunshine, and strong winds in the Gulf of Suez.

According to Heike Harmgart, managing director for the southern and eastern Mediterranean region at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, “moving forward with the [Egyptian] sovereign wealth fund, prioritizing the desalination to get the water for the green hydrogen, and promoting special economic zones have all been important steps.”

According to experts, at least a dozen memorandums of understanding with foreign corporations have already been signed in order to advance framework agreements for the upcoming COP27 climate summit, which is planned to take place from November 6–18 in Sharm el-Sheikh.

According to Harmgart, this is also the time that the Egyptian government would introduce its green hydrogen plan.

Ali Habib, an energy consultant based in Cairo, emphasizes the government’s intentions for green power. “We allotted enormous territories along the Nile for wind and PV [photovoltaics], larger than Singapore. According to Habib, DW, “special power lines will be used to transmit this green electricity to the hydrogen project in the Ain Sokhna port.
